Her father Albert Richards had quite a number of children,male and female from other relationships.Several of them are still alive.John of Brooklyn,and George and Eltruda of the USVI are some of them.

Following her formal schooling at the St,Thomas' Parish Elementary School in Nevis she joined the workforce early,because of her poor economic status,She left school early before graduation.

Meanwhile her mother had moved from Barnes Ghaut to Cotton Ground Village,while she was still young.

She engaged in farming with her mother and also the production of charcoals for sale,also the raising of small stock to supplement their livelihood.

She briefly lived in St Kitts the sister Island where she had her firstborn Ruth.While in St,Kitts she lived with one affectionately known as"Mama Luther'.

Following the birth of several more of her children,including myself,she migrated to St, Croix USVI in search of work.She returned home some months later.After several more trips to St,Croix and several more children,she met and got married to Lloyd Hanley-Wells of Nevis in St Croix,Between them they had five children.He died some years ago in St,Croix.

She migrated to the Bronx,NY in the early seventies and remained until this moment.

Mom was a loving,caring and supporting one to all of her fifteen children(one died at age twelve from complications due to a fall from a mango tree).

All of us can attest to her love ,caring and sharing especially on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day-her birthday-her grandchildren and great-grand children were not forgotten,For Mom the more the merrier.Several years ago she told me she had sixty three grandchildren,I imagine that the number including great-grand is closer to one hundred now.She was so happy when we were together as a family.

Following the deterioration of her health and subsequent hospitalisation.she was placed in a home for special care we visited frequently and I even took the church sunday bulletin for her to read,she always inquired about my family.I prayed and sang with her,for when she was up and about she attended church,St Margarets' here in  the Bronx and St.Thomas" Anglican in Nevis.She always was in the habit of giving God thanks for all his blessings

She was hospitalised just over a week ago and we prayed and hoped that she would make it to her birthday,Alas! this was not to be and she passed away peacefully on the 21st.Dec 2016.

We/I will miss her greatly,but we are comforted by the fact that she is not in pain any more.May the Angels of Peace carry her on their wings to that perfect paradise in God"s Glory. Rest In Peace Mom
